Taking Language Home: Ensuring the Survival and Maintenance of Indigenous Languages Beyond the Classroom

In 1990, the American Indian Language Development Institute, found a permanent home at the University of Arizona. With support from the department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies (formerly known as Language, Reading and Culture) College of Education, American Indian Studies, Linguistics and the Graduate College, AILDI has been able to offer a sustained Indigenous language education experience to hundreds of students, community members,educators, scholars, researchers and language advocates.
